The Eco-museum

In 1999, Jean Vier the Basque linen specialist created the Basque Eco-museum in St Jean de Luz. The museum was created to be a celebration of the history, traditional trades, festivals and everyday life of the Basque people.
Of course you'll discover all the charm of the unique weaving methods that go into making Basque linen, but also your senses will be stimulated by sound, light and taste, the spirit of the Basque region encapsulated.
A festival for the senses. To taste Izarra, the famous Basque liquor, To hear the sound of traditional music and song, to watch the Pelote court where traditional Basque games are played.
All these things help create our unique identity and express our love of life.

Come and discover Jean Viers' dream house exhibition. Situated within the museum itself, it covers over 400m sq.
A journey through history using reconstructions, activities and games.

The Eco-museum is situated in a beautifully imposing 19th century farm on the outskirts of St Jean de Luz.
As well as the Jean Vier exhibition you will also find two traditional shops, the Comptoir Basque and the Bodega Txoko Iban.
